Frequently Asked Questions

Our FAQs are here to make planning your trip simple. From what’s included in your camper to licence requirements, mileage, booking details and collection times, we’ve answered the questions we’re asked most often. Whether you’re a first-time camper or a seasoned traveller, this section gives you the key information you need before hitting the road. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just get in touch — we’re always happy to help.

Are there any mileage limits?

No – we offer unlimited mileage on all our hires to allow you to travel as far as you’d like.

What happens if something’s not working?

We make all reasonable endeavours to ensure that your van is in full working order when you pick it up, but occasionally things will go wrong. In the first instance, please refer to the van handbook. However, if you’re still stuck, please give us a call and we’ll help you fix the problem.

What happens if I break down?

Our vans are of a high standard, are all less than a year old and we make all reasonable endeavours to ensure that they are roadworthy at the time of rental. However, if there is a breakdown of any sort, we ask that you call us first and then call the number for Volkswagen Assist. Please see the contact card in window pocket. If the vehicle can be fixed at the roadside then you should be back on your way in no time. If it cannot be fixed, you will be relayed back to us or to the nearest garage – this must be confirmed with ourselves in each instance before making a decision. If the van can not be repaired instantly, you will receive a partial refund. As a hirer you are responsible for looking after the van. The costs incurred from any mechanical or other breakdown as a direct result of hirer neglect in this regard will be borne by the hirer (see our terms and conditions for details).

Are the camper vans suitable for children?

Absolutely! Children love the excitement and adventure of a camper holiday. We also have a couple of vehicles with ISOFIX should you require, please let us know at the point of booking.

How many people do your campervans accommodate?

Our vans can sleep either 3 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children. Additional guests can be accommodated in the tent awnings which can be hired as extras, or you can bring your own tent.

How many people can travel in your camper vans?

Our vans will safely seat 5 people whilst on the road – 3 in the front and 2 in the rear.

Can I bring pets?

We do allow well behaved pets (up to a maximum of 2 per van). Please note pets do incur an additional deep cleaning charge of £10 each. No crocodiles or elephants please!

Who can drive your camper vans?

Drivers must be between the age of 21 and 75 years of age and must have held a full driving licence for a minimum of two years. You must not have had more than 6 penalty points in the last 3 years and have not been declined insurance.

Can I take the campervan abroad?

Yes, you are welcome to drive our vans anywhere in Europe! However, we require you to let us know at the time of booking as there will be an additional insurance and breakdown charge.

What happens if I have an accident?

Don’t admit fault in the first instance. Take as many photographs as possible and call us immediately on 0191 814 4400 as soon as it is safe and practical to do so to let us know what’s happened. We’ll advise you on what to do next.

What time do I need to return the camper van?

Vans must be dropped off by 11am on the day of return. Late return charges of £100/ph after 11am will be charged to the hirer should the van be returned late. We are strict on the policy as this has a knock-on effect on our other clients.

What time can I pick up the camper van?

Campers are available for collection between 2pm and 5pm on your day of departure.

How easy are the camper vans to drive?

Our vans are the same to drive as any modern car, just remember they’re a little bigger! As with driving any new vehicle, take your time getting to know your van, then once you’re settled in you can relax and enjoy the ride!

Are the camper vans petrol or diesel?

All our vans take diesel. Should you fill up with the wrong fuel please call Volkswagen Assist as per the hire handbook. There will be a charge for this service.

Should I book campsites in advance?

We would advise that you book your campsites in advance during the peak season and school holidays, particularly if you would electric hook-up which will enable you to use all the camper facilities to their full advantage. We are part of the Camping and Caravanning Club’s Privilege Scheme, which means our customers have access to over 110 participating campsites at discounted rates.

What age do I have to be to hire a camper van?

If you’re between the ages of 21 and 79, have had a drivers licence for at least 2 years, have not had any more than 6 penalty points on your licence in the last 3 years and have not been refused insurance in the past then you may almost certainly rent one of our vans.
